Pep Band
10th, 11th, and 12th grade students at Mayo High School are expected to attend pep band if they are able.  Pep band is ungraded, but students earn lettering points for attending.  The bottom line for us is that we will only sound good if we have a lot of musicians at pep band.  So please come :)

9th grade band members are encouraged to attend our pep band events.  They are a great way to get experience playing your instrument and also to get to know the upperclassmen.

2017-2018 Pep Band Schedule - Version 2
(updated to reflect the new event on January 30, 2018)

Lyres and Flip Folders

Lyres and flip folders are items that help hold your music when playing while standing without the use of a music stand.  Each instrument handles this a little bit differently.

Flutes typically use a flutists friend.

Clarinets use a clarinet lyre and a flip folder.

Saxophones use a saxophone lyre and a flip folder.

Trumpets, mellophones, and marching euphoniums typically use a L shaped lyre and flip folder.  However, there are other kinds of brass lyres out there, and you can get a flip folder that clamps to the bell.

Trombones often use a trombone lyre and a flip folder.  However, trombones can also use a flip folder that clamps to the bell.

Sousaphone players tend to just hold their music with their hand in a flip folder.  Though a sousaphone player might like to try a flutists friend.

Drumline members tend to just bring music stands because lyre solutions are not too user friendly.  They must be removed with a drum key whenever you want to put the drum in a case.  Drumline members will benefit most from a binder with page protectors to organize their music.
